PMP® Exam is Changing due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)



As we know that PMI is committed for our safety and thinks about keeping us well-being. We also have social and national responsibilities therefore PMI has planned to support us in our responsibilities and self care while staying at home in the lockdown period of worldwide problem occurred due to Coronavirus (COVID-19). PMI has designated Crisis Task Force that is continuously monitoring the situation arising from coronavirus (COVID-19) daily.

Important Dates for PMP Exam changes due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)



Earlier, PMI informed us that the new exam content would reflect starting on 1st July 2020 but PMI has released a COVID-19 update for exam changes on 14th April 2020 due to COVID 19 situation, the new PMP exam syllabus change is postponed. Candidate can apply for the current PMP exam with the existing syllabus and take up the PMP exam until 31st December 2020 and PMI has postponed the launch of the new exam until 2 January 2021.

For the candidates who have already scheduled the PMP exam but are not able to take it due to restrictions or delay in training, PMI is supporting them by offering reschedule the PMP exam without reschedule penalty fee until 1 July 2020. Along with it, PMI will automatically extend your PMP exam eligibility until 18 January 2021.

Candidates will be eligible for refund of their paid fees and as mentioned above, they can reschedule the PMP exam without reschedule penalty fee until 1 July 2020.

Where will be your PMP Exam Test Center?



To support restrictions and Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown in most of the countries worldwide, PMI has also announced a major change in PMP test center and launched Online Proctored Testing (OPT) for PMP and few other exams. Now candidates can take the exam online from the convenience of their home or office, 24/7.

It will be a secure platform with proven exam delivery technology. Candidate would need,

  • Computer with a webcam
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Quiet space where you can spend a few uninterrupted hours

Even if candidate’s exam is automatically cancelled, candidate can reschedule their exam’s appointment through their online Pearson VUE account. Here, Candidate can choose the online proctored testing option or the traditional center-based testing option. If the testing centers in candidate’s area have been reopened, candidate will be able to select a location and an available seat. Please note, even if testing centers in your area have not been reopened, you will still see the center-based testing option, but it will say there are not any seats available.

If your exam is approaching and it is not auto-cancelled, you can cancel your existing exam date and then schedule new exam date choosing online proctored testing option. PMI is currently waiving exam rescheduling fees for all exams until 1 July 2020.

Can I take other PMI exams online?

PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification exams are other two exams you can take online.

Can all PMP candidates take their exam online?



As per PMI, Almost all PMP candidates can take their exam online. However, online proctored testing is not permitted in Cuba, Iran, Sudan, North Korea, Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, and Slovenia. Candidates in these countries may see the online proctored testing option when they schedule their exam, however, they will be unable to see availability for online testing. Instead, PMP candidates in Japan, South Korea and Slovenia must take their exams in a testing center. PMP candidates in China must take their exam during paper-based exam events that occur four times a year. PMI is not permitted to conduct business in Cuba, Iran, Sudan, and North Korea due to sanctions.

If you require test accommodations in order to take your exam, you must apply for these and receive approval from PMI before scheduling your exam. You can apply for approval during the examination payment process. Once the request is submitted, you must send supporting medical documentation to Please note, PMI will not consider requests for accommodations without supporting documentation, and you will be unable to schedule your exam until your accommodations are approved.

How do I schedule for the PMP online proctored exam?



As per PMI, before you can schedule your exam you must submit your application payment. Once payment is received, you will then be eligible to schedule your online proctored exam. Log in to and navigate to “Review Application Status” under myPMI. Click “Schedule Exam”. You will be directed to schedule your online proctored exam through Pearson VUE.

Is there anything I need to do before sitting for my online exam? Can I practice for this new online proctored testing format?



As per PMI, Taking the PMP exam online is very similar to taking the exam on a computer testing center. The only difference is the online check-in process and that you are being proctored by a remote proctor via your microphone and your webcam. However, as a way to prepare for your online exam, we suggest you visit  to review instructions for running a system test prior to your exam.
